RULES
All photos submitted must have been taken by the Competitor.
Photos (not digital) must be 8” x 10”.
This event is open to 55+ Men and Women combined. The maximum number of entries that any one competitor can submit is two categories from the list of three, Saskatchewan Landscape, Sport and Fora. Colour and black & white will be judged separately. Medals will be awarded based on the categories for colour and black and white separately.
On the back of each photograph entered, the competitor must record their name, the name of the category and the title of the work to ensure proper judging. Prior to judging, Provincial Games organizers will display the title of the photograph.
Competitors must submit their entries to their district representative in accordance with established deadlines. The districts must judge the entries and if the competitor requests, the entries may advance to the Provincial 55+ Games. Competitors are not required to accompany their entries to the games if the competitor is not competing in another event.
It is important that the criteria for judging photography is the same at the district level and the Provincial 55+ Games. Refer to the rules – Guidelines for taking photos and judging.
GUIDELINES FOR TAKING PHOTOS & JUDGING
Basic Technique: Is the focus appropriate for the subject and is the depth of field appropriate?
Composition: Is the image balanced and is there a main center of interest? Are there distracting elements in the picture that could be eliminated? Are there too many unrelated elements or too few elements? Is depth used (or not used) to good advantage?
Colour/Lighting: Does it show off the subject well? Is the contrast level appropriate?
Subject/Interest: Does the subject have interesting connotations or associations? Are the colors and patterns effective, interesting textures?
Originality: Does the image show an original subject or an original approach to a standard subject? Does it show a visual signature or convey a personal vision?
Story/Mood: How well does the photograph capture or illustrate the topic selected? Does the image effectively tell a story about the topic selected or convey a mood or value?
